Please note: Due to the shelter-in-place order announced for San Mateo County on 3/16/2020 our physical location on the College of San Mateo campus will be closed until further notice.

Counseling services are for:
  • Continuing students
  • New and returning students
    who have completed Orientation and Assessment
Counseling Services staff will be available during our regular hours to assist you by phone or email.

We can make you an appointment to meet with a counselor by phone or Zoom videoconferencing.

To utilize Counseling Services, new and returning students must first complete a College Orientation and assessment for course placement.

College Orientation
The College Orientation is required of all new and returning students.  You can complete the College Orientation online through your WebSMART account under Student Services. 

Students On Dismissal Status must follow the Reinstatement Process in order to register for classes: 
  • Attend an OnTRAC Reinstatement Workshop (by Zoom) Sign up here
    • You will receive a Zoom invitation at your my.smccd.edu email.
  • Fill out Reinstatement Petition
  • Schedule a counseling appointment
  • Meet with a counselor to create Student Educational Plan (SEP) and submit your petition (phone or Zoom)
  • You will receive your reinstatement decision 1 to 2 days after your counseling meeting
  • Once reinstated, you will be able to register on your registration date through your WebSMART account
 
Degree Works
All students who plan to complete a certificate, associate degree, and/or transfer to a university should use DegreeWorks, a web-based tool to help students and counselors monitor progress toward educational goals.
Transcript Evaluation Service
Students who plan to complete a certificate, associate degree, and/or transfer to a university and have completed coursework at a college or university outside the San Mateo County Community College District should have their previous transcripts evaluated during their first semester at CSM. Submit official transcripts to Admissions and Records and request the official evaluation through WebSMART.
