Admitted Students

Congratulations on your admission to College of San Mateo!

Once you have received your admission notification from College of San Mateo International, please make sure to complete the following steps as soon as possible to ensure a smooth start to the semester:

  1. STUDENT ONLINE ORIENTATION - This is the first step! It takes 30 minutes to complete. Found on Websmart, click on "Student Services" under "Student Training & Learning" and find "New Student Orientation (Online)". Please complete this step first. Please note, you would have received a welcome email from College of San Mateo's Registrar with your login information. Please check your "spam" folder as some emails may be sent there.

IMPORTANT: If you have completed course work from another U.S. school, university, or college, please complete our Assessment Form before proceeding to the next steps!

  1. ESL/ENGLISH ASSESSMENT

If you provided any of the following as proof of English, please skip to Step #3.

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
  • U.S. high school and/or U.S. university transcripts
  • School Letter proving medium of instruction was English

If you provided a different proof of English language proficiency, i.e., Duolingo, Language School Certificate of Completion, please make your ESL/English Assessment appointment by following the Welcome Center Assessment Services instructions for ESL/English Course Placement.

  1. MATH GUIDED SELF-PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT

This is not an exam, but a quick conversation with our Assessment Office. Please review the Self-Assessment packet before your appointment. Please make your appointment

  1. COUNSELING APPOINTMENT

We will make the counseling appointment for you after you have completed Steps 1-3. Do not make your own counseling appointment. If your counselor sees that you made your own appointment, they will cancel the appointment. Please email csminternational@smccd.edu to request a counseling appointment after you have completed Steps 1-3. 

What is New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation is designed for all new international students to prepare for a successful semester at College of San Mateo.

Upon completing the orientation, students will be able to:

  1. Connect with faculty, staff, and peers to establish a sense of learning community with the College of San Mateo.
  2. Identify the academic support systems and student services to help overcome potential challenges in a new learning environment.
  3. Understand the academic code of conduct and important requirements and tips to be a successful learner.
  4. Confirm your ESL & math assessments by meeting with an academic counselor and enroll in the academic classes.
