Faculty Flex Day Obligations

Flex Day Annual Calendar

SMCCD provides a flexible calendar for staff development in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Division 6, § 55724*. There are six (6) Flex Days in the 2024-2025 academic calendar:

• August 12 and 13, 2024, and October 9, 2024.
• January 9 and 10, 2025, and April 17, 2025.

SMCCD requires mandatory attendance at two Flex Days (August 13, 2024, and January 10, 2025), while the other four Flex Days remain on "flexible time."

Full-Time Faculty Flex Day Obligations & Reporting

All SMCCD full-time faculty members have a total of 6 days (30 hours) of Flex obligations to complete. SMCCD requires mandatory attendance at two Flex Days (August 13, 2024, and January 10, 2025), while the other four Flex Days remain on "flexible time."  

See the District Academic Senate's Faculty Flex Obligation Form page for the latest form for submitting flex activities to your Dean. Full-time faculty must submit this form to their division office by June 15, 2025.

If you are a faculty member unable to participate in any of the planned on-campus Flex Day activities and would like to know about alternatives available to you, discuss your situation and options with your Division Dean.

Hourly (Adjunct and Retired) Faculty Flex Day Obligations & Compensation

SMCCD hourly (adjunct and retired) faculty flex obligations vary based on semester assignment. 

See the District Academic Senate's Faculty Flex Obligation Form page for the latest form and information about submitting flex activities to your Dean. Part-time faculty must submit this form and a timesheet to their division office by the last day of each semester: FALL - December 16, 2024; SPRING - May 22, 2025.

If you are scheduled to teach on the same day of the week that a Flex Day occurs, you can receive compensation for reported flex activities up to the total number of hours normally worked on that day(s) up to 5 hours. Beyond those hours (or if you are not scheduled to teach on the day of the week Flex Day occurs) you can receive compensation at the special rate, for up to 5 hours per Flex Day.
