Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I prepare for my essay conference?
- Be ready to discuss your essay prompt or instructions for your assignment.
- Bring any notes, drafts, or outlines that you've been working on, as well as your essay prompts. We ask that you print these out in advance, which you can do free of charge at the Writing Center.
2. Can you print my essay drafts, prompts, course handouts, etc. for me?
Yes, if they are for your essay conference or ENGL/LIT course. Email them to csmtwc@smccd.edu and we can print them before your essay conference or your class.
3. How many essay conferences does my English course require?
Each English course has different requirements—check your course syllabus on Canvas or reach out to your instructor for confirmation.
4. Can I make more than one appointment at a time?
- To make sure all students can get an appointment at the Writing Center as soon as possible, we ask that you schedule one appointment at a time.
- An exception can be made if you would like to schedule two appointments in two separate weeks.
5. Can I make an hour-long appointment, or more than one appointment in a day?
We cannot schedule appointments longer than 30 minutes, and only one appointment
per day is allowed. This is so students have enough time in between appointments to
work with the feedback they received in their first session.
6. Why can’t I make an appointment on Accudemia?
- Accudemia only allows students to schedule one essay conference per week. To make a second appointment for the same week, please contact the WC by phone at (650) 574-6436 or by email at csmtwc@smccd.edu.
- After missing two appointments without canceling (no-shows), you will not be able to make appointments on Accudemia. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Writing Center or stop by in person.
7. Can I make an appointment to get help with my personal statement, scholarship application
essay, or writing assignment for a CSM course that isn’t ENGL or LIT?
Yes, with some restrictions—please contact the Writing Center or stop by in person
to make an appointment with us directly.
