Free Tax Preparation (VITA)
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at College of San Mateo provides free income tax assistance to the San Mateo county community. Appointments are in-person and available Saturdays, between February 21, 2026 and March 28, 2026. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Walk-in appointments are NOT available. Please note: the appointments calendar is currently closed. It will be available beginning February 1, 2026.

Individuals and families with a household income of less than $69,000 a year, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Please Note: If you suffered storm damage and have a loss you want to deduct on your tax return, we are unable to prepare returns with storm damage. Please see a paid preparer.
If you do not qualify for SparkPoint or VITA at College of San Mateo services, you may qualify for IRS Free File – a free self-tax preparation service available via the official IRS website.
