Student Employment Opportunities

The CSM Learning Center has a variety of employment opportunities for students. Students can apply for each position electronically or with a paper application. Please note that most hiring is done well in advance of the beginning of the semester. Also, tutors require a recommendation from a CSM faculty member.

Positions include:
  • Peer Tutor
  • Embedded Tutor
  • Student Assistant
Requirements for becoming a Peer Tutor
If you meet the below requirements and are interested in working as a tutor, please complete the Learning Center Peer Tutor application. Students can pick up a paper application at the the Learning Center and return it to a staff member or submit an electronic Peer Tutor Application.
  • Have at least a 3.0 overall GPA 
  • Have at least a B in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Complete a Tutor Application form
  • Obtain a CSM instructor’s recommendation to tutor in the subject area of interest.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at College of San Mateo
  • Interview with the Learning Center Manager, Joseph Martinez
  • Once hired, enroll in and successfully complete LCTR 100 (1 unit) Tutor Training Course.

Requirements for becoming an Embedded Tutor
If you meet the below requirements and are interested in working as a tutor, please complete the Embedded Tutor Application. Students can pick up a paper application at the the Learningenter and return it to a staff member or submit an electronic Embedded Tutor Application.
  • Have at least a 2.5 overall GPA 
  • Have at least a B in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
  • Complete an Application form
  • Obtain a CSM instructor’s recommendation to tutor in the subject area of interest.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at College of San Mateo
  • Interview with the Learning Center Coordinator, Shanna Cooper
  • Once hired, enroll in and successfully complete LCTR 100 (1 unit) Tutor Training Course.
Requirements for becoming a Student Assistant
If you meet the below requirements and are interested in working as a tutor, please complete a Student Assistant Application. Students can pick up a paper application at the the Learning Center and return it to a staff member or submit an electronic Learning Center Student Assistant Employment Application.
  • Have at least a 2.0 overall GPA 
  • Complete an Application form
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at College of San Mateo
  • Complete an interview with the Learning Center staff
  • Complete required training
