Professional Development

PD-Related Committees

There are many shared governance committees on campus in the SMCCCD District that support professional development for faculty and staff.  Is there a committee missing from this list?  Please let us know

All-Campus Professional Development (APD) Committee

The purpose of the All-Campus Professional Development (APD) Committee is to promote professional development opportunities that are inclusive of our employee groups and help us meet the College's Mission, Vision, Strategic Priorities, Educational Master Plan goals, Program Review, and other plans.  The APD Committee reports to the Institutional Planning Council and supports Flex Day planning, needs assessment, and other PD that affects all our employee groups.

Classified Professional Development Committee

The Classified Professional Development Committee administers funds for tuition, conference/travel reimbursement for classified participating in eligible professional development activities.

Committee on Teaching and Learning (CTL)

The Committee on Teaching and Learning (CTL) oversees, coordinates, and reports on activities that promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning. The CTL supports the Academic Senate’s goals and the college’s institutional priorities by promoting practices for assessing student learning and success.  The CTL reports to Academic Senate.

Distance Education Advisory Committee (DEAC)

College of San Mateo’s Distance Education Advisory Committee advises and makes recommendations on policy and plans for the academic use of instructional technologies to the Academic Senate, the Vice President of Instruction, and the Dean of Academic Support and Learning Technologies. The DEAC reports to Academic Senate.

District Distance Education Advisory Committee

The SMCCCD District Distance Education Advisory Committee, or DEAC, is comprised of broad presentation from local distance education committees at each of the three colleges. DEAC advises and makes recommendations on policy and plans for the academic use of instructional technologies as well as offers strategic recommendations, research, best practices and planning for developing high quality online learning to the District Academic Senate.  It supports the District Academic Senate’s goals and the district’s priorities by collaborating on professional development activities, promoting best practices, and recommending quality standards for online teaching and learning. DEAC aims to successfully implement both District and College distance education goals and recommendations.  District DEAC reports to District Academic Senate.

District Teaching and Learning Committee (DTLC)

The SMCCCD District Teaching and Learning Committee (DTLC) is tasked with addressing ongoing concerns with respect to teaching and learning, in keeping with ASCCC's 10+1 rights of faculty. There is strong collaboration with the District DEAC and DCC, and recommendations and guidances are formulated collaboratively across these groups. All recommendations and guidance documents are reviewed and voted on by the District Academic Senate.

Educational Equity Committee (EEC)

The mission of the Educational Equity Committee is to work towards the elimination of systemic inequities, college-wide, through the review (and revision, where necessary) of all processes that influence individual student success. Therefore, this committee will work to develop educational equity-centered analytical and pedagogical tools that equip CSM’s campus community with viable avenues to begin working towards the eradication of the educational opportunity gap.

Faculty Professional Development Committee

The Faculty Professional Development Committee administers the Faculty Professional Development Fund (established by Article 13 in the AFT Contract), including funds for conference travel and sabbatical.
