FILM 200 ADVANCED FILM STUDY: FILM NOIR
This course surveys the diverse and compelling cinematic landscape of
American independent film. Beginning in the 1960s, when American
independent film rises out of the ashes of a declining Hollywood, we
will chart the rise in popularity of the independent film, through the “film
school generation” of the early 1970s, the quirky mid-1980s (Soderbergh,
Coen brothers, Spike Lee), then into the “Tarantino” 1990s. Prerequisite:
FILM 100, 110, 120, or 121.
Recommended Preparation: ENGL 848.
Credit/No Credit or letter grade option. (CSU/UC)
