Asian American and Pacific Islander Leadership Development Program (AAPILD)

Overview

Program Purpose

The purpose of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Leadership Development Program is to provide a sense of belonging, cultural awareness, leadership development, and academic support for AAPI students at the College of San Mateo (CSM). Participants engage in a year-long curriculum of skill-building activities, culturally centered dialogues, and intentional mentorship. These AAPI student leaders implement campus events and create positive impact for the broader community.

Program Objectives

  • Sense of belonging: Feeling connected to other people at the college whether that's students, staff, faculty, or the overall campus.
  • Understanding your cultural identity: Explored, shared, and heard aspects of your unique story as related to nationality, ethnicity, religion, social class, generation, locality or any kind of social group.
  • Leadership skills: Attended leadership workshops, learned from campus leaders, and gained leadership skills through collaborating with other student leaders.
  • Academic success: Feeling comfortable with asking counselors for help, and accessing and utilizing academic, career, and wellness resources across campus.
