Grant Funded Programs: HSI-STEM Grant Title III

Overall Goal: The overall goal for the HSI STEM project is focused on impacting the success, retention, and completion of Hispanic and low-income STEM students.

Outcomes: Expected outcomes include increased enrollment of Hispanic and low-income STEM students; increased semester-to-semester persistence; increased retention and graduation; increased percentage of STEM degree students transferring into STEM fields at four-year institutions; increased percentage of Hispanic and low-income participants who successfully completed gateway courses; and decreased percentage of Hispanic and low-income students on academic probation. 

Priorities: The College of San Mateo’s project, “HSI STEM grant,” is designed to increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students who graduate with STEM degrees. It provides an opportunity to further build evidence on the effectiveness of interventions that are relevant to the purposes of this program. Specifically, CSM’s multi-component project design incorporates a counseling and advising program with an intervention that is aligned with the InsideTrack coaching model studied by Bettinger and Baker.
