Parking FAQs

Essentially, your vehicle’s license plate will act as your virtual parking permit. Individuals will register their vehicle plate information into an online virtual parking permit system when purchasing their permit. The permit software then generates a virtual permit linked to that vehicle's license plate number.

Officers use a handheld device to scan and capture the license plate. It is then automatically referenced against the secure parking database to verify that the individual has a valid permit. If the license plate and vehicle information are not associated with a valid virtual permit, the vehicle will be subject to a citation.
No need to display a physical permit, no more lost/stolen permits, no more waiting for a physical permit to arrive in the mail, and reduced paper and plastic usage. Your permit is valid in the appropriate parking lot on any of the three SMCCCD campuses.
You are allowed to register up to three vehicles under the same virtual permit. The virtual parking permit system will recognize the first vehicle on campus as valid, but any additional vehicles found on campus at the same time, under the same virtual permit, will be subject to a citation. Two vehicles listed under the same virtual permit may be on campus at the same time only if the second vehicle purchases a daily virtual parking permit.

All vehicles parked on campus are required to be registered and maintain a virtual parking permit with the following exceptions:

  • No virtual parking permit required for motorcycle parking
  • No virtual parking permit required if your vehicle is properly displaying a valid CA state disability placard or valid CA state DP license plate.
All persons driving motor vehicles (except motorcycles) onto campus and utilizing the parking facilities during regular class hours (Monday-Friday, 7am - 10pm) are required to obtain a virtual parking permit. Virtual parking permits are not required in student lots on weekends or holidays. Virtual parking permits are not required for motorcycles.
Students and visitors can park in any student lot within a marked/lined parking space.
