Online Student Services

Overview

We know times are challenging right now, and we understand that transitioning to online learning can feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar — please know that our student services team is here to help.

While our college is closed through at least April 5, we want to remind you that many student services are still available to you in an online format. Students can call and schedule appointments via Zoom video conferencing or phone appointments. Student services include:

ACADEMIC COUNSELING

Remote counseling services are available for General Counseling. Please complete the Counseling Services Request Form or call (650) 574-6400 to schedule an appointment. You can also contact The Welcome Center at (650) 574-6175 or CSMWelcomeCenter@smccd.edu for Counseling Services inquiries. For Counseling Support Programs (DRC, EOPS, MCCDC, Promise, International), please visit their websites for more information on scheduling.

ADMISSIONS & RECORDS

The Admissions & Records Office is operating remotely and providing essential services. They can be contacted at csmadmission@smccd.edu and are available for Zoom meetings. Admissions & Records will continue processing transcript requests and forms; please access the forms on their website: collegeofsanmateo.edu/forms.

CASHIERING

Remote and online services are available. Please contact the Cashier’s Office at (650) 574-6412 or csmcashiers@smccd.edu for assistance.

DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER

The Disability Resource Center is currently offering all services remotely. Please contact the Center at csmdrc@smccd.edu or (650) 574-6438 (leave a detailed voice message with your name and G#). We can schedule phone or zoom appointments. Please visit our website for more detailed information regarding our remote services.

If you feel you may benefit from academic adjustments and auxiliary aids, please complete the application for services and upload your verification of disability. You will find this application on our website under forms.

MULTICULTURAL CENTER AND DREAM CENTER (MCCDC)

Remote services are provided by the MCCDC by emailing csmmccdc@my.smccd.edu or calling (831) 318-0826. The MCCDC has created a Zoom hang out to answer questions and build community. To join, click here: MCCDC Hang Out. Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) is available to provide free immigration legal consultations and related services. To sign-up for appointments please click this link or contact our legal service partners at (415) 528-6004. If you are seeking food, housing or any other community resources, regardless of your documentation status, please call 211 or contact your nearest San Mateo County Core Agency.

FINANCIAL AID

The Financial Aid Office is operating and providing essential services during regular hours. Financial Aid staff is available by phone, zoom and email. Students can submit documents via csmfinancialaid@smccd.edu. Documents must be password protected or encrypted. Students can continue to check their financial aid status through their WebSMART account. Please note that awarding and disbursements of funds continues as scheduled.

HEALTH CENTER

The CSM Health Center Building is currently closed and plans to reopen on Monday, April 6th at 8:30 am. If you require medical assistance and have health insurance, call the phone number on the back of your insurance card to find out which healthcare facilities are covered under your insurance plan. If you do not have health insurance and you are in San Mateo County, San Mateo Medical Center is an option for you. Their phone number is (650) 573-2222 and their address is 222 W 39th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403.

Immediately call your healthcare provider: if you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough and difficulty breathing.

LIBRARY

The College of San Mateo Library is currently offering all services remotely. Services include:

  • Article databases, streaming films, ebooks and other tools are available online 24/7 from the CSM Library website - Articles and Database.
  • Research Guides are also available for many subject and discipline areas.
  • Email reference: available through the Email Reference Form or click Email on the CSM Library website
  • Chat/text reference: chat box is embedded in several places on the library website including the front page.

  • Phone reference (650) 574-6232: reference librarians will be answering voicemails this week.
    Callers are asked to leave a message that includes an email contact. Replies will be by email.

ONLINE TUTORING

LEARNING CENTER

Due to the campus closure the Learning Center staff will be able to answer emailed questions during normal hours of operation, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Please email us at csmlc@smccd.edu and include your question, name and G# and we will respond as quickly as possible.

Tutoring is currently available online, in Canvas, through our NetTutor partner. If the NetTutor button does not appear in your Canvas course page, you may access it through our LCTR 698 Canvas shell. If you are not currently registered for LCTR 698 (CRN 43805), and you would like to access drop-in, online tutoring, please go to WebSMART to register. This is a free, non-credit course that simply provides access to tutoring. If you have any trouble registering, please email the Learning Center at csmlc@smccd.edu and we will assist you.

STEM TUTORING

STEM tutoring provided by the Math Resource Center and Integrated Science Center tutors are available on Zoom.

Students can go to collegeofsanmateo.edu/stem and click on the MRC or ISC schedule to join a live Zoom meeting with one of our peer tutors. Or, use the links below:

Our STEM site also has instructions on how to access NetTutor and will link to other CSM programs that offer virtual tutoring.

PERSONAL COUNSELING

Personal Counselors are currently checking-in remotely with current clients via email. We are working on providing counseling sessions via an online platform. As soon as it becomes available, information will be sent to all students.

If you are experiencing a psychological emergency, please call the Crisis Hotline at (800) 273-8255 (Spanish: (888) 628-9454), dial 911, or go to the psych emergency room. Below is a list of some free and low-cost resources available for counseling support:

SPARKPOINT

Remote financial coaching and education services are available for SparkPoint customers. To schedule an appointment call (650) 762-9249 or email csmsparkpoint@smccd.edu. Please note that the Food Pantry is suspended until further notice, contact your nearest  San Mateo County Core Agency. If you live outside of San Mateo County, please text or call 2-1-1 to receive information about free emergency services in your area. The service is free, secure, and confidential.

VETERAN’S SERVICES AND THE VETERAN’S RESOURCE & OPPORTUNITY CENTER

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

NEW ONLINE EDUCATION WEBSITE

We have launched a “Virtual Campus” website to provide online education resources and information on how to access student services online.

CAMPUS RESTRICTIONS

Students should not come to campus. This is due to the transition to online and distance education. Offices and student services (such as SparkPoint, EOPS, health centers, international student offices, and all others) will not be available.

INSTRUCTION MOVED ONLINE MARCH 17

All classes that were formerly face-to-face classes resumed on Tuesday, March 17, as online classes. Please check your email frequently for communications from your instructor regarding the specifics of how your class is moving online.

Please note: If you were already taking an online class, that class continued uninterrupted.

MONITOR YOUR EMAIL

Please monitor your District email (my.smccd.edu) constantly for updates regarding this rapidly developing situation. We will be providing further guidance as the offices of instruction and student services develop online processes and procedures during this time.

CANCELLATIONS & CLOSURES

  • Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College campuses are closed to all students through April 5
  • All special events (performances, lectures, exhibits, receptions, workshops, panel discussions, committee meetings, club meetings) are canceled through April 5
  • Spring sports are canceled until further notice

FURTHER ASSISTANCE
