The Village

Mission & Purpose

The Village is an embodiment of the academic, cultural, and social values upheld by our cultural-based learning communities (Katipunan, Mana, the Puente Project and Umoja) and Project Change. Rooted in their shared commitment to empowerment and educational equity, these communities prioritize wrap-around services and comprehensive academic support that are essential to the student experience.

The Village is not only an embodiment of collaboration but also a shared space in Building 17. The Village provides a space for Katipunan/Mana/the Puente Project/Umoja/Project Change students and club members to call their own on the CSM campus. This space is conceived in the spirit of being a positive social, academic and cultural space in which our cultural diversity is not only honored, valued and welcomed but recognized as an essential fabric of the CSM college community.

Enjoy the space, respect the space and come on in!

Community Guidelines

Shared Space, Shared Responsibility: Sign In. Clean Up. Contribute.

  • Remember the importance of signing into spaces we utilize as it helps to understand how the Village is being used and how we can improve it.
  • To support a respectful, organized, and thriving environment for all members of our community and guests, we agree to uphold the shared practice of cleaning up after ourselves.

Honor the Village as a Home Away from Home

  • Respect and value the space as a community where everyone belongs.
  • Recognize humanity in everyone and the purpose behind our collective efforts.

Be Mindful and Intentional in Interactions

  • Respect events, activities, and the shared environment.
  • Be aware of your presence, tone, and language and always consider how your words and actions affect/impact others.

Practice Mutual Respect and Empathy

  • Listen actively, acknowledge different perspectives, and support one another.
  • Treat others with kindness, empathy, and dignity at all times.

Hold Each Other Accountable

  • Support a culture of accountability with kindness and fairness while approaching situations with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Valuing the importance that the Village is a home away from home

Please remember to be considerate of the two primary functions of the Village - it is both a quiet academic space as well as a social area! Respect for your Katipunan/Mana/the Puente Project/Umoja/Project Change peers is expected and greatly appreciated.
