At College of San Mateo, community engagement is a cornerstone of our mission to expand access to education and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. We partner with local businesses, community organizations, non-profits, and educational institutions to build strong, sustainable connections that support student success and community development.
We focus on:
- Creating Inclusive Opportunities
Collaborating with partners to support access to learning and career pathways for all community members while building increased visibility of CSM in our community and awareness of free college. - Fostering a Sense of Belonging
Hosting campus events that bring together prospective, new, and current students along with community members that builds opportunities for greater connection and access to experiences such as paid internships, student clubs, learning communities, and athletic programming. - Strengthening Community Connections
Developing programs and events that reflect shared goals with local organizations and create a lasting impact both on and off campus.
Signature Events and Partnerships
- Back to School Bash
Held at the beginning of the fall semester, this event welcomes prospective, new, and returning students with culturally inclusive programming, resource sharing, strengthening understanding of career/academic programs, and opportunities to connect with peers, staff, and community partners. - Spring Block Party
Kicking off the spring semester, this event strengthens community ties through music, food, and activities that reflect the cultural richness of our students and promote a sense of belonging, and strengthen understanding of career/academic programs. - President’s Advocacy Council Dinner
An annual gathering of community leaders, donors, and partners to raise the funding for CSM while elevating student voices, celebrating shared achievements, and exploring innovative strategies for expanding equity and student support across campus.
