CAUniversity Transfer Option 1: California State University General Education Certification (CSUGE)

Certificate Requirements

Complete 39 semester units of coursework to meet the California State University General Education Certification requirements as listed below.

A grade of "C" or higher is required for each course applied to the certificate. Specific courses required to fulfill requirements can be found on the CSU-GE Form

Complete 9 Units of Area A:
Communications in the English Language and Critical Thinking Courses in Area A must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher. Select a course from each area below.

A1: Oral Communication 3.0 units
A2: Written Composition 3.0 units
A3: Critical Thinking 3.0 units

Complete 9 units of Area B:
Physical Universe and Its Life Forms. The Courses used to meet Area B4 must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher. One of the courses selected to meet Area B1 or Area B2 must be a lab course or have a lab component to meet the B3 lab requirement. Select a course from each area below.

B1: Physical Science 3.0 units
B2: Life Science 3.0 units
B3: Lab Course (B1/B2 course must be a lab course or lab component)  
B4: Math Concepts/Quantitative Reasoning 3.0 units

Complete 9 units of Area C:
Arts, Literature, Philosophy and Foreign Language. At least one course must be selected from Arts and one course from Humanities. The third course can be selected from either Arts or Humanities.

C1: Arts 3.0 units
C2: Humanities 3.0 units
C1 or C2 3.0 units

Complete 9 units in Area D:
Social, Political and Economic Institutions. Must complete coursework in at least two disciplines. Courses selected to meet Area D may also be used to meet a CSU graduation requirement in US History, US Constitutions, and California State and Local Government (referred to as AHand/CA State). (CSU Chico does not allow double counting of courses in Area D to meet AHand/CA State).

Area D 9.0 units

Complete 3 units in Area E:
Lifelong Understanding and Self Development.

Area E 3.0 units
