Current Initiatives
  1. CSM Community Garden Honoring Cesar Chavez
  • In Spring 2016, we were proud to honor Cesar Chavez’s legacy of service, social and economic justice with our very own CSM Community Garden. In sustaining the CSM Community Garden, we annually replant edible and native plant species to attract local pollinators.
  • In addition, we installed a permanent sign during Summer 2017.
  1. Bee Campus USA
  • College of San Mateo is the third institution of higher education in the nation to be certified as an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program, designed to marshal the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of pollinators.
  • Current project: The Biology 220 Botany labs are surveying the landscaping plants and drafting an Integrated Pest Management strategy to protect local pollinators. The proposals were submitted to the District for review in Spring 2017.
  1. CSM Earth Day Celebration: Promoting Sustainable Lifestyles on Campus
  • Wednesday, April 18, 2018
  • Our fourth annual Earth Day celebration will be bigger and more interactive than ever!
  • We will have over 20 exhibitors and student clubs presenting on social justice, biodiversity, water, waste, and energy issues affecting the CSM community.
