The Firefighter I Academy (FIRE 793) is state-certified as a regional academy. The Firefighter I Academy meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings (1800 - 2200) and Saturdays (0800 - 1800), as well as some Sundays (0800 - 1800) during fall and spring semesters.

The pre-requisite for the FFI Academy is admission into the Fire Academy.  In order to be eligible for admission, students must:
  • possess a current, valid EMT certificate, AND
  • have successfully completed FIRE 715 - Principles of Emergency Services, AND
  • have successfully completed at least three (3) additional units of Fire Technology coursework
All coursework must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.  Equivalent courses from another certified Fire Technology program within California will be accepted as well.  All coursework must be completed when applying for the Fire Academy; in progress courses will not be accepted.

Students with at least one year of fire service experience in a fire suppression role may use their experience in lieu of completed coursework.
