The Firefighter I Academy meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings (1800 - 2200) and Saturdays (0800 - 1800), as well as some Sundays (0800 - 1800) during fall and spring semesters. This course is 12 units. For more information about enrollment fees, visit the Fees page.

The pre-requisite for the FFI Academy is admission into the Fire Academy. In order to be eligible for admission, students must:
  • possess a current, valid EMT certificate, AND
  • have successfully completed FIRE 715 - Principles of Emergency Services, AND
  • have successfully completed at least three (3) additional units of Fire Technology coursework
All coursework must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.  Equivalent courses from another certified California Community College Fire Technology program will be accepted as well.  All coursework must be completed when applying for the Fire Academy; in progress coursework will not be accepted.  To ensure eligibility for an upcoming academy, your documentation should be in order by October for Spring academy offerings, and by April for Fall academy offerings.

Students with at least one year of fire service experience in a fire suppression role may use their experience in lieu of completed coursework.
