Staff Notes: 2/11/2013

Dear Classified Colleagues,

Below you will find the first edition of what we are calling Staff Notes, an e-newsletter for classified staff at CSM. It is our hope that this e-newsletter will help facilitate communication between you and your classified representatives on the various college-level planning committees. This communication is not intended to be one-way. We encourage you to provide comments and feedback.

It is important to note that this e-newsletter is not going to supplant or replace any communications from CSEA. This e-newsletter will focus primarily on issues related to shared/participatory governance and the College planning and decision-making process. It is still vital to pay attention to communications from CSEA having to do with union business, contract negotiations, and other collective bargaining matters.

If you have any questions, suggestions for topics, or news that you would like to share please let us know. We want this e-newsletter to be a resource for all classified staff.

Staff Notes: An e-newsletter for CSM staff
Monday, February 11, 2013

Welcome to Staff Notes, an e-newsletter by and for CSM's classified staff. We will be sharing important news and updates regarding CSM's participatory governance process, College events and activities, and other information for classified staff.

This is an introductory newsletter with a high-level overview of some of the major initiatives currently taking place at the College. Future newsletters will focus on specific issues and topics. We will also be looking for feedback from classified staff on various matters.

Participatory Governance
Classified staff play an important role in CSM's decision making process. By serving on various institutional committees, classified staff representatives work with faculty, students, and administrators to help guide the development of College policies and initiatives.

You can get more information about institutional committees by visiting the website for the Office of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness (PRIE). On the PRIE website, you can also see the current membership of all institutional committees to find your classified representatives.

Accreditation
As you may be aware, CSM is currently preparing an Institutional Self Evaluation Report in anticipation of a team site visit in fall 2013. The Institutional Self Evaluation addresses the standards established by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) and is an important part of the College's accreditation process. Committees comprised of classified staff, faculty, students, and administrators have been hard at work writing and editing the report during the fall semester and winter break.

More information about accreditation and the Institutional Self Evaluation are available on the 2013 Self Evaluation website.

Classified Council
We are excited to announce the creation of the Classified Council. This group is made up of classified staff representatives from the various institutional planning and participatory governance committees at the College. The groups meets every month to discuss issues that are coming before the various institutional committees and to share information regarding new campus initiatives. Meetings are open to the entire campus community.

We hope you have found this e-newsletter informative.
