Studio Art offers students a solid foundation in the two-dimensional arts such as drawing, painting, design and color. CSM's 2D Art program is recognized as a leader in figure drawing, which is the core study for animators. It is a transfer path into art school or university and/or professional training for artists. Students may receive either an AA in General Studio Art or an AA-T degree in Studio Art (CSM Catalog). Graduates from CSM's Studio Art program successfully transfer into majors such as fine art, animation, design, art therapy, museum studies, and teaching and/or become exhibiting artists.

All of CSM’s studio art instructors are professional artists and recognized experts in their chosen media.

Featured Courses: Art 204, Drawing I & Art 205, Drawing II
Art 204 is the entry course for all students starting art studies and is transferable to  UCs, CSUs and saisfies CSM GE E5c.  Students learn observational drawing through a variety of media such as charcoal, conte, graphite and ink. Art 205 expands upon skills learned in Art 204 with a special emphasis on color, advanced drawing techniques and personal expression. Art 205 is also transferable to UCs, CSUs and satisfies CSM GE E5c.
