How do I log in to Canvas?

Open up the latest version of your browser. We strongly recommend using Chrome for the best experience.

1. Navigate to smccd.instructure.com or search for "SMCCCD Canvas"
2. Enter your SSO/Canvas username and password.
   Your SSO/Canvas username is the first part of your my.smccd.edu email address (before the @): username@my.smccd.edu
   Example: If you had the email address of janedoe@my.smccd.edu, your SSO/Canvas username = janedoe

For new students your SSO/Canvas password is the same as your default email password. An email was sent to your my.smccd.edu inbox with your Canvas login information.

If you change your SSO/Canvas password, it will not change your email password. If you change your email password, it will not change your SSO/Canvas password. The two passwords are not linked. 

What if I am having login issues?

If you are having trouble logging into Canvas, you may want to try the steps below to see if it fixes the issue:

• Navigate to or enter "smccd.instructure.com" into the address directly rather than using a bookmark.
• Wait 20 minutes and try logging to the SMCCCD Canvas site again.
• Clear your cookies and cache on your browser and quit your browser session. Open a new session and try to login to Canvas.
• Check to make sure that you are using the latest version of your browser. We strongly recommend using Chrome for the best experience.

What if I still can't login to Canvas? Or I forgot my password or never received my Canvas password?

If you have tried these steps and still cannot access Canvas, then you can reset your password, by clicking on the “Forgot your password?” link on the Canvas login page. A reset password link will be sent to your my.smccd.edu inbox. To locate and access your student email account, log into your WebSmart account where your email account can be found at the bottom of the main page under My Profile as demonstrated in the video below:
