The Manifestation Project

The Manifestation Project is an interdisciplinary pedagogical framework developed by Professor Tim Maxwell that encourages autonomous learning through the lens of human rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Students are introduced to a "world defined by rights" through their own personal narratives in which they are asked to reflect on a time that they were victims of or witnesses to an injustice.

Through the Manifestation Project, instructors can guide their students from these narratives to thoughtful, strategic actions on behalf of others using a series of steps that ultimately lead to the students' self-awareness, collaboration, and reflection. Additionally, the Manifestation Project's framework can be adapted to any discipline from art to political science and is flexible enough to allow instructors to meet department specific Student Learning Outcomes.

We invite you to consider the Manifestation Project in your own courses and to contact Tim Maxwell at maxwellt@smccd.edu or Jeramy Wallace at wallacej@smccd.edu with any questions.
