Housing Options

New international students should secure housing before arriving in the U.S. Listed below are housing options and resources available to College of San Mateo international students.

Option 1: Homestay

The College of San Mateo
is proud to offer a homestay placement service for our international students. Our homestays are safe, affordable and quality housing accommodations with a local host family. Host homes are located within a reasonable distance to the student's school. Hosts come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds that matches the interest and needs of international students. It is a great opportunity for students to learn about American culture, while also working towards their academic goals.  Read more about the San Mateo Colleges of Silicon Valley Homestay Program.

Option 2: Rent an apartment

The rental cost of a one and two bedroom apartment ranges between $1100 to $2,500 per month.  Students must be prepared for additional costs of utilities (gas, electricity and internet). There is required security deposit of the first month rent (refundable).

Option 3: Rent a room

The rent of a furnished room in the Bay Area ranges between $900 and $1200 per month. This price usually covers all utilities and kitchen & bathroom privileges.  Students are responsible for their own personal expenses, such as cooking, laundry, phone bills, etc.
