Dismissal

A student on probation is subject to dismissal if in any two subsequent semesters either or both of the following criteria are applicable:
  1. The student's cumulative grade point average is less than 1.75 in all units attempted.
  2. The cumulative total of units in which the student has been enrolled for which entries of W, I, and NC have been recorded reaches or exceeds 50 percent. (See "Withdrawal")
A dismissed student normally must remain out of day and evening classes for one semester prior to petitioning for reinstatement.

To reinstate and be eligible to enroll in classes a student must:
  • Attend the CSM Reinstatement Workshop and complete a reinstatement petition
  • Meet with a counselor to review academic history, academic readiness, and issues that have interfered with academic success and course completion
  • Have a Student Educational Plan created and updated by the counselor
  • The completed Reinstatement Petition is submitted to the Counseling Services front desk
  • The petition will be reviewed for approval and student are notified of their reinstatement status by email to their my.smccd.edu account
To register for a Reinstatement Workshop:

Log into WebSMART

  • Select "Student Services"
  • Select "Scheduling appointments"
  • Select "Make a Student Services appointment"
  • Select "Reinstatement Workshops Appointment"

Workshop attendance is only required once as long as student performance is improving.

The Reinstatement Petition must be completed each semester until the student is back in good academic standing. Additionally, the student must a have a Progress Report completed for each class. These documents are to be brought to the counselor and then submitted at the Counseling Services front desk.
