Allan R. Brown Outstanding Service & Leadership Award

The Associated Students of College of San Mateo sponsors the Allan R. Brown Outstanding Student Service Award. Dr. Allan R. Brown was a distinguished scholar, teacher, counselor and administrator who served College of San Mateo from 1959 to 1989. The award is based primarily on exceptional contributions by students to student life, the college and the community. Nominations are made by faculty, staff, students and/or administrators. Students who volunteered in a wide variety of activities outside the classroom and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, remarkable accomplishment, outstanding personal character, and inspiration to their fellow students are recognized.

The recipients for 2017–2018 are:
  • Brandi Andino – For service as a member of the Umoja Program and for leadership in the Umoja Club.
  • Mondana Bathai – For service as Chair of the ASCSM Programming Board and for dedication on behalf of The Labyrinth, the College’s Honors Literary Journal.
  • Jordan Chavez – For service as a member of the Botany Club and for efforts as part of the College’s Sustainability Committee.
  • Katrina Relos – For service as Vice President of the Associated Students and for advocating on behalf of women and underrepresented groups on campus.
  • Colby Riley – For service as President of the Associated Students and advancing the cause of equity and inclusion across the campus.
  • Gabriela Topete Eng Goon – For service as Chair of the ASCSM Advocacy Board and for work on behalf The Labyrinth, the College’s Honors Literary Journal.
Recipients will be recognized at the College's annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 11.
