International Students
Residents of other countries may apply for admission as F-1 Visa students through the International Student Program. Special international student applications, related forms and additional information may be obtained from the International Student Center (Bldg. 1, Room 261). To be eligible for priority admission for the terms listed below, special applications should be filed in the International Student Office by these dates:

Applications received after the priority deadlines will be considered if space is available. Students who are in the United States temporarily on F-1 visas to study at another institution may be admitted as part-time students at College of San Mateo with the approval of the Dean of Admissions and Records. In order to attend College of San Mateo these students must present either a letter of approval from a counselor or official of the other institution or a current SEVIS Certificate of Eligibility issued by the other institution. Nonresident tuition foreign student fee of $182.00 per unit and the $20.00 per unit enrollment fee, is payable by international students at the time of registration.
College of San Mateo is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant international students. In order to be admitted to the program, an international student must:
1. complete the equivalent of an American high school education with satisfactory grades
(normally a B or 3.0 average);
2. demonstrate sufficient command of English to profit from instruction at the College.
A minimum score of 480 (paper based) or 160 (computer based) on TOEFL is required;
3. present evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses while attending College of San Mateo. The tuition fee for the 2007 academic year is $182.00 per unit of credit plus a $20.00 per unit enrollment fee (total is $202.00 per unit); and
4. provide proof, before registration, of medical insurance coverage or enroll in a medical insurance plan provided for international students by San Mateo County Community College District.
International students are required to complete 12 units of class work each semester to maintain their status.
A tuition deposit of $500.00 (toward the nonresident tuition fee for 12 units) is required before issuance of the
SEVIS Certificate of Eligibility for visa purposes. Additional fees are payable at the time of registration.

Applications for the Fall 2008 semester must be filed by April 15, 2008.
College of San Mateo
College of San Mateo, a public community college founded in 1922, is located on a 153-acre site with a panoramic view of the northern San Francisco Bay Area. Completed at a cost of almost US $19.5 million, the campus opened in 1963 and currently serves over 10,000 day and evening students.

College of San Mateo is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a recognized agency of the Federation of Regional Accrediting Commissions of Higher Education. Many international students from countries around the world spend a year or two at CSM and then transfer to a nearby university to complete a bachelor's degree.
