Puente Project

Overview

The Puente Project is a collaborative transfer support program. Puente, meaning “bridge” in Spanish, is symbolic of how the Puente Project serves as a bridge for the community college student, both from their home culture to academia and from community college to the transfer process. The Puente Project links English and career classes in a one-year learning community that advances the Puente mission to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who:
  • Enroll in four-year universities
  • Earn college degrees
  • Return to the community as leaders and mentors
As a nationally recognized academic program, the Puente Project is supported by the University of California. The Puente model is composed of three components: counseling, English, and mentoring. The three components are intentionally integrated to work together in supporting the Puente students in reaching their transfer goals. Visit puente.net for more information on the 60+ Puente programs throughout California.

CSM's Puente Project is designed for students who are:
  • Eligible for ENGL 838
  • Motivated to transfer
  • Interested in Latino/a Literature and Latino/a experiences in the U.S.
Through the Puente Project, you will find a supportive transfer community and sense of familia at CSM. All interested students must first complete the Puente Commitment Survey, then attend a Puente Project New Student Orientation. Contact the Puente coordinators to get started. We look forward to serving you!
