Celebrating 50 Years on the College Heights Campus with Free Jazz & College Open House

San Mateo, California; May 1, 2013 – On Saturday, June 1, 2013, Jazz On The Hill, presented by KCSM 91.1, the Bay Area’s jazz station, returns as College of San Mateo’s signature event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the College Heights campus. Music enthusiasts of all genres and generations will be treated to a day of exceptional live jazz on two outdoor stages with spectacular views of the Bay and peninsula. The musical lineup will showcase diverse jazz performances ranging from Blues to Salsa to Hip Hop – a truly eclectic mix of music to appeal to a variety of interests. The schedule of performances will feature Charlie Musselwhite, Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Taylor Eigsti, Terrence Brewer, Citizen Rhythm, Northgate High Jazz, Hot Club of San Francisco, KCSM Family Band, CSM Jazz Combo, and Jazz Mafia. The concert takes place at College of San Mateo and runs from 10 am – 6 pm.

In addition to great jazz, this family-friendly anniversary celebration will include an open house of CSM’s newly renovated campus from 11 am – 2 pm. Open House activities include guided tours of the campus, a CSM alumni VIP “meet and greet,” exhibits and displays of more than 30 college programs and departments staffed by faculty and students. CSM’s dance team is scheduled to perform and Pilates and yoga students will present demonstrations. Fans of KCSM-FM will be able to chat with their favorite on-air announcers. There will also be a student artwork sale of ceramics and sculpture as well as local arts and crafts vendors. Food and beverages will have a prominent place throughout the event: local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Sea Scouts will sell snacks and beverages, and more than 10 food vendors, including popular food trucks, will be selling a diverse selection of fare. As a gift to the community, admission to Jazz on the Hill is free.

According to KCSM General Manager Marilyn Lawrence, “We are thrilled to bring back Jazz On The Hill as the kick-off event for the college’s 50th year on the hill. I can’t think of a better community event to showcase KCSM, Jazz 91 and College of San Mateo, in partnership to continue a legacy of great music and higher education to the San Francisco Bay Area.”

College of San Mateo is located at 1700 West Hillsdale Boulevard in San Mateo.
