CSM’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony is one of my favorite days of our academic year. This year we were able to award scholarships to 198 students for a total of $210,519.68. We are able to award these scholarships due to the generous support of our many donors. I want to congratulate our student scholarship awardees. Whether you plan to transfer or enter your chosen career, I have no doubt that you will enjoy further success. To our donors: thank you so much for your generosity. My heart goes out to the victims of the San Bruno Fire. In an era when our state and our country is polarized on the simplest of issues, it is nice to see people come together, roll up their sleeves, and contribute in multiple ways to help those in need. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to hold an open forum for students regarding our college budget. Like every community college in the state, we have begun the process of planning for painful cuts. I will admit that I was a bit nervous before the forum. I did not know what the mood of our students would be. My fears were unfounded. We had a wonderful forum which provided a venue for thoughtful questions, informed dialog, and some great ideas.
