The S.M.A.R.T. program is a student-to-student, peer mentoring program for first time college students attending CSM. S.M.A.R.T. mentors have the opportunity to assist their mentees by providing information about campus resources and insight about how to succeed in college. The goal of the student mentor/mentee connection is to foster a helpful relationship that will assist incoming students with the challenges associated with being a first time college student.
- Successful completion of a minimum of 24 units
- A 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA on all CSM units attempted
- Completion of application including two recommendation letters from faculty, counselors or others who can address your ability to act as a peer mentor
S.M.A.R.T. applications received before March 11, 2013 will be given priority consideration.
How do I apply?
Students may apply to become program mentors by completing the Learning Center Student Assistant application and attaching the S.M.A.R.T. supplemental application materials, including two letters of recommendation and a short essay addressing why you want to be a mentor, should be turned in to a staff person in the Learning Center.
