International Education Program
Travel to the United States

College of San Mateo is located near San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and not too far from Oakland International (OAK) and San Jose International (SJC) airports. Please be aware that you must enter the United States before the program start date listed in item #5 of your I-20 but no earlier than 30 days before the program start date. You must travel with the following documents:
  • Valid original passport
  • Valid F-1 visa stamp in your passport
  • Valid original I-20
  • SEVIS Fee Receipt
  • Copies of your financial documents
Immigration Inspection at the U.S. Port of Entry
During your flight, the flight attendant will ask you to complete an I-94 arrival/departure card. When filling out the I-94 card and all official documents, always use your official name and information as they appear on your passport. Upon arrival in the U. S., your documents will be inspected by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security. The I-94 card will be stapled into your passport. Examine your documents immediately after they are returned to you to make sure that the officials did not make any errors. Your I-20 and I-94 card are important documents proving that you are allowed to stay in the U.S. as a student! Keep them in a safe place.

Transportation from the Airport
CSM cannot provide airport pick-up. You can take a taxi or shared van service such as SuperShuttle, which picks up passengers on the street-level arrival areas. SuperShuttle fares are between $25-45. Please visit the airport websites for San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose for more transportation tips including fares for shuttles.
