Overview
Historically community colleges have been defined by “service areas,” usually corresponding to the high school districts which serve as “feeder” schools to the nearest community college.
The San Mateo County Community College District uses its historical service area boundaries primarily to target outreach efforts in local high schools.
Today, CSM students reside throughout the wider Bay Area and beyond, though the majority of students live in San Mateo County.
CSM collects a variety of data about its local residents and high schools to help improve its outreach and the success of San Mateo County high school graduates who choose to enroll at CSM.
