World Language Week

Was held the week of November 3, 2003

Events were open to all.

The CSM campus community celebratied
World Language Week.
Activities included speakers, slides, food,
and films.

Featured languages:
Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese.

 

 

Monday evening's slide show, "The Right Bank of Paris,"
was presented by Professor Susan Petit

Light refreshments accompanied a show of slides taken over more than 25 years of travel to Paris by Mme Petit, featuring such Paris landmarks as the Champs-Elysées, the Tuileries and the Louvre, the Opéra district and the major department stores, immigrant districts, Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur, and a famous flea market.

6:30-8:00 p.m. Room 14-104. Discussion and tasting. Marilyn Carter. Following a dégustation de fromages (cheese tasting), a talk, "Un Français à l'étranger/A Frenchman Abroad" by Philippe DESANDRE, President of United Gourmet. Born in Paris, M. Desandre has lived in France, Switzerland, Germany, Saudi Arabia, New York, Miami, Houston,Singapore, San Francisco. Has been in the USA since 1979 except for five years in Singapore. He answered questions from the public . . .and asked some back.

7:30-9:30 p.m. Room 16-256. Film: The Harmonists. Roslyn Raney. In German with English subtitles.

Wednesday, November 5

8:00-10:00 p.m. Room 16-272. film: Jenseits der Stille. Diane Musgrave. In German and German sign language with English subtitles. The film is about the hearing daughter of deaf parents and her experience learning about deaf culture.

Thursday, November 6

6:30-9:35 p.m. Room 18-288. Discussion: What are typical characteristics of Asian people? Jing Wu

6:30-9:35 p.m. Room 16-251. Film: Notte di San Lorenzo. Leda Mussio. In Italian with English subtitles.

7:00 p.m., Room 16-255. Film: The Horseman on the Roof [Le Hussard sur le toit] cosponsored by the French Club. George Khoury. In French with English subtitles. Of course, there were snacks, sodas, etc. to add to the cinematic atmosphere, courtesy of the French Club.

Friday, November 7
