Distance Education
Student Support Services

Students choose distance education courses for their flexibility of schedule and the option of completing course work and accessing services at a distance.  To assist distance education students in achieving their educational ambitions there are many support services available online
  • Bookstore - Students may browse and purchase textbooks for courses online through the bookstore web site.  Information on the bookstore web site does not guarantee that a textbook will not change or a course will not be cancelled.
  • Online counseling - College of San Mateo has eCounseling available for continuing students who are enrolled in distance education courses to help determine education goals or develop student education plans for completing degree, certificate or transfer requirements.  To use eCounseling, send an email message from your my.smccd.edu email account to csmcounselor@smccd.edu that includes your student ID number and include as much information as possible about the reason for your inquiry.  You will receive a reply from a counselor or faculty advisor within three business days.
  • Library and research - As a student enrolled in distance education courses at CSM you may find it convenient to use online research tools and databases.  Some resources will require you to have a library barcode/PIN combination.  If you have a CSM library card or one issued from any of the public libraries in San Mateo county you can use it to access many CSM online library resources.
Distance Education students have the same status as students enrolled in on-campus classes and may access student support services.  Additional student support services may have limited availability through distance technology and may be accessed on campus.
