Is Distance Education right for me?

Distance Education courses are not for everyone.  They give students greater freedom of scheduling but they can require more self-discipline and require as much time and effort as on-campus classes. How well distance education courses fit into your educational goals depends on many factors.  It is important for new or first time DE students to review the information regarding What you should know about Distance Learning Courses prior to enrolling.

Enrolling in Distance Education Courses

Once you have decided that distance education courses are a good fit for your learning skills and goals you will need to complete the steps below in order to register for classes at College of San Mateo.
  1. Complete the admissions application and receive your CSM student ID number
  2. Take placement tests in English or ESL and Mathematics. (Currently must be completed on campus)
  3. Attend Orientation and Course Selection Workshop (Currently must be completed on campus)
  4. Register for classes and pay the enrollment fees using your WebSMART account.
  5. All college electronic communication will go to your my.smccd.edu email account. Log into your WebSMART student account to find your email address and password and check in regularly.
