The College of San Mateo offers a Dental Radiology course that allows the student to obtain a California Radiology license in only one semester. CSM is the only college in the county that offers a one semester radiology course. The Dental Radiology course can be taken as part of the Dental Assisting Program or as an individual course for the student already employed in a dental office or with some dental knowledge. Every dental health professional must possess a license in order to expose dental x-rays on a patient. The CSM Dental Assisting Faculty does NOT recommend that a student take this class with no prior dental knowledge.
Please be advised that the following are required as a student in the Dental Radiology course:
Radiology Uniform package
- 1 set of Ceil Blue Scrubs (top & pants)*
- Uniform Shoes
- Name Tag
- Safety Glasses
- Lab Coat
The student will be required to wear their uniform beginning the second Monday of class.
Scrubs tend to run large; be aware when you order your size; check the size chart.

A $150.00 lab fee will be due to Renee Herold, the course instructor, during the first two weeks of the course. This fee covers the cost of the films and other supplies the student will be utilizing throughout the course. Exact cash or a check/money order made payable to "Renee Herold" is acceptable.
The student is also required to have a medical and a dental form signed by their physician and dentist. These forms are due by the third week of the course. You may download the dental examination form here. Please call us for the medical form.

If you are a perspective patient who would like dental radiographs taken by a CSM Dental Assisting student for the reduced fee of $25.00, please download a patient release form here. This form is taken to your dentist giving CSM permission to expose you to dental x-rays. The dental x-rays will then be forwarded to the dental office listed on your form.
