"Books For Africa" Book Drive at CSM

Books For Africa is a nonprofit organization serving as the largest shipper of donated textbooks to the African continent.  Books For Africa has shipped more 20 million primary, secondary, post-secondary, and community library books to 44 countries since 1988.  This semester, many Bulldog football team members are leading a book drive on campus, with a goal of collecting more than 250 pounds as many of CSM's baseball players did last semester. The players will be collecting books as their Civic engagement project in CSM Adjunct Assistant Professor Erin Scholnick's American Politics course.

CSM "Spotlight!" Television Debut

Talented Bay Area high school students broadcast their movies on "Spotlight!"--a new locally produced series. Each "Spotlight!" episode showcases the work of two young film-makers and features an in-depth interview with a prominent industry professional. Students get insider tips and insights from Producer Brad Lewis, Sound Designer Andrea Gard, Animation Supervisor Webster Colcord, Location Manager Rory Enke and Screenwriter Terrel Seltzer. The host is veteran broadcast personality Angie Coiro. Short bio of author: Sr. Helen Prejean is an internationally-known anti-death penalty activist and author. Her best-selling book, "Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States" (1994), was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and was developed into a Oscar-winning movie and the basis of an internationally-acclaimed opera. "The Death of Innocents: An Eyewitness Account of Wrongful Executions" (2006) is her second book. She gives lectures world wide and has been nominated many times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
