JAWS, screen reader - DSKL 817 Assistive Computer Access
JAWS is a screen reading program developed by Freedom Scientific. JAWS = Job Access With Speech and is used to access the computer by people with visual impairments.Topics to be covered

Student Learning Outcomes
- Student will configure assistive technology to meet individual needs.
- Student will use assistive technology to access course materials.
- Student will demonstrate using assistive technology to access the Internet.
- Student will demonstrate using assistive technology to access computer applications.
Requirements
- 24 hours in lab for .5 unit (48 points)
- Lab assignment completion - (52 points)
Class materials will be provided.
Class Procedures:
- Instruction will be given during your scheduled class time. It is very important that you attend all classes. Please schedule your work hours and other appointments accordingly.
- If you are unable to attend class, you must call 574-6432 and leave a message. Please leave a message at any time of day.
- In order to become, proficient in using the computer, you should spend time outside of your class time practicing what you’ve learned in class. Computers are available during Open Lab hours. There are also computer in the Library.
Open Lab Hours
The ATC lab is open for independent work in the afternoons, Monday through Thursday until 3:00. There are morning hours available so check the lab schedule.
The lab is open Friday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00.
