Cindy Chu Instructor
I am a Bay Area native, born and raised. I left
for a couple of years to attend UC Santa Barbara and got my Bachelor’s
degree in Physiology. It was there that I got involved in athletic
training and discovered that I liked the whole field of exercise
physiology. I wanted to pursue it further and headed to San Francisco
State University to attain a Master’s degree. I was on the track to
being an exercise physiologist, but I started to feel that it was not
the exact fit of what I wanted in a career. It was in one of my
classes that I discovered Adapted Physical Education and suddenly this
door opened to an exciting diverse field that I never knew even
existed. It definitely interested me and I had to continue on with
it. I took more classes and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology
(Exercise Science/Adapted P.E.) and am thankful that I’ve found my
niche in exercise science. I started out volunteering in the Adapted
P.E. program here at the College of San Mateo during grad school and
have been here since. The environment is fun, encouraging, and
motivating. The staff is great and the students come together to
support each other…it’s like a little nugget of a family, and it’s the
best!
I’m a fan of the outdoors so you’ll find me swimming, running, snowboarding (or at least attempting to), hiking, and other activities depending on what season it is. I love 75 degree weather. I love trying new foods. And I love the Bay Area.
