Colleagues

This academic year (2009-2010), we are facing Program/Course elimination and reductions resulting from the State's budget. This is an extremely difficult situation we are in, but I do believe we are in control of our curriculum.

In order for this to work, we must offer help to faculty and divisions. We must be mindful that each division and/or faculty is dealing with this in different ways. We need to respect individual processes. We do not want faculty to do more harm than good to each other and possibly create wounds that would destroy our campus culture for decades.

We need to focus on solving a severe situation and be willing to share our processes and outcomes while affirming a new vision for the college and how best to structure the curriculum to achieve this vision. In addition, remember we all are catalyst in creating alternative ways to proceed with optimistic solutions.

What have we done so far, ASGC has approved an Ad-Hoc Budget Committee to help streamline the process, A Process for Program/Course Reductions & Timeline and Course & Program Proposal Form has been developed and approved by ASGC for use by individuals, groups and divisions. These submissions were due October 30, 2009.

October 30, 2009 faculty and divisions submitted program/course reductions alternatives to Cabinet and we received a response to these submissions on November 6, 2009.

November 12, 2009 faculty submitted counter proposals to Cabinet and we are expecting a response no later than November 16, 2009
